When I'm in the Detroit area, my favorite place to grab a veggie burger is at Vinsetta Garage in Berkley, MI. I have no idea what's in it, but it's forking delicious.
There is a specialty vegetarian burger at Vinsetta Garage known as the EV1, but I ordered it once and didn't care much for it. Luckily you can substitute the vegan patty in any burger.
I don't know why restaurants do this thing where they put a bunch of weird crap on their vegetarian options, but they need to stop. When I'm craving a burger, I don't want a veggie patty topped with broccoli sprouts, arugula, roasted vegetables, goat cheese, and some fancy aioli. I want a traditional burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and some super secret sauce. #America
That's why I customize my burger and put the "healthy stuff" on the side in the form of a salad.
With that being said, I've gotta grab a side car of Union Mac when I'm at Vinsetta Garage. It's too good not to.
If this sounds like a lot of food to you, you're not wrong. I typically split it, but if I go at it alone, I just save the rest for midnight. The burger actually keeps well and I often just eat it cold. Seems to taste the best that way.
Here's how I order my favorite meal...
Vinsetta Burger >> Sub Vegan Patty and Shiitake Bacon on a Pretzel Bun
Normally two 4 oz patties with American cheese, L.T.O., dill pickles, Michigan maple bacon, and Vinsetta Burger Sauce
Sub House Side Salad
Mixed greens, feta, snap peas, red onion, fresh tomatoes, fried chickpeas, oven-roasted tomato vinaigrette
Add Side Car of Union Mac
(Total: $14.50 burger, $2.95 sub salad, $3.95 side mac = $21.40 +tax)
You won't regret it. Even my meat eating momma gets this every time she goes.
For my lushes out there, Vinsetta Garage has a bunch of beers on rotation and some good custom cocktails. They also have boozy milkshakes, but I've never saved room for one. Even fat vegetarians have their limits.
The wait can get a bit long; especially during dinner on the weekends. I suggest you grab a seat at the bar. The seats are comfortable and you get to watch the kitchen in action.
So the next time you're in Metro Detroit, do yourself a favor and grab this monster vegetarian meal at Vinsetta Garage in Berkley, Michigan.
